Cycle Steps
Starting from the centre of York the route takes you along quite country lanes to Ripon via Linton on Ouse. From ripon you head out on the A1608) until you join the Wensleydale valley at Mashm. Thereafter the route becomes increasingly hilly as you head West along the valley, going through Aysgarth and Hawes, reaching the high point at the Moorcock Inn for a rest. From then on you follow the Mallerstang Valley with barely a car in sight until you reach Kirkby Stephen: a wonderful descent. Follow the signs to Appleby but by going through Soulby rather than the busy A66. Rolling hills take you through to Appleby. Crossing the river Eden, turn left along the B6542 and turn right underneath both the railway line and A66 and continue towards Dufton which is at the foot of the Pennines.
Landmarks/Pubs for lunch/Sites to see?
Wensleydale, Mallerstang, Appleby and Dufton are the highlights.
There is a cycle shop in Dufton.
Numerous places for refreshments but points to stop and rest are probably: Ripon, Hawes, Middleham and the Moorcock Inn
