Nice pedal through countryside, more interesting options are there, but good 1st run to Lewes & back. Very hilly near A272 on return!

Good route but hard start via Quarry Hill. We went Penshurst, right after Saints Hill to Blackham, cross A264 at Sussex Oak, and down to Withyham, and then Hartfield. After Kings Standing, take right to Nutfield, and right again in village to Fletching, which has a superb High Street of half-timbered houses.

Take SE road towards Piltdown, and turn right after A272 to go to Lewes via Spithurst, Barcombe Cross and Hamsey.
This last part can be a variation on your out or return route.
