Cycle Steps
A pleasant ride along the river Trent from Stoke Bardolph through Bulcote along quiet lanes and farm track to join the A6097 just below Gunthorpe. Please take care along the farm track during harvest time as heavy plant machinery will be in use.
From the A6097 turn right to join cycle path alongside main road. After half a mile turn left and follow Gunthorpe village signs. Follow river left and join riverside path to Hoveringham, your route now takes you up Boat Lane and Main Street over the rail crossing to Thurgaton.
From Thurgaton join A612, turn right and right again to follow Bleasby Road through Bleasby towards FIskerton. When you reach FIskerton Main Street turn right along Station Road until you reach the level crossing.
After crossing lines turn immediate right down Racecourse Road (my intention was to follow this road into Southwell however, there is no route through and gates block your way outside the racecourse).
Follow Station Road into Rolleston village and bear right onto Staythorpe Road, follow until you reach the A617 then turn left. Follow A617 and take next left along A612 to Upton village, keep on A612 all the way into the centre of Southwell passing the Minster on your left before reaching mini island on Kings Street. There is ample opportunity to stop for a drink and refuel at numerous cafes around the centre of the town before retracing your route back along the A612 to pick up FIskerton Road on your right opposite the Old Coach House.
Follow FIskerton Road until you reach Main Street, now turn right and follow your outward route back to Bleasby, Thurgaton, Hoveringham, Gunthorpe to Stoke Bardolph.
Landmarks/Pubs for lunch/Sites to see?
Ferryboat Inn at Stoke Bardolph provides a good selection of meals and beverages at the end of your ride. There are numerous cafes in Southwell to refuel before your return journey. Bromley Arms at FIskerton and the Red Lion in Thurgaton also serve good food as well as a small cafe in Bleasby which serves tea and cakes etc.
