Spennymoor to Shildon via Kirk Merrington and Leasingthorne then up Brusselton Bank before crossing the A68 and heading down the roman road to Piercebridge then along the A67 through Gainford to Barnard Castle then back along the A688 through Staindrop and West Auckland to Spennymoor. A couple of good climbs and nice fast descents (straight and not too scary)

I live in Washington, Tyne and Wear and was trying to figure out my best route to get to Winston caravan park between Darlington and Barnard Castle. After consulting a map and working out several different routes I remembered this site and found this route. I joined this route at Spennymoor, heading back over, towards West Auckland and Staindrop. I then turned off at Staindrop to my destination. A good, enjoyable ride, a few uphills but also a few downhills too, especially passing Raby Castle and the descent towards Staindrop.
