Once past the college follow your nose, and the A1018, through Cleadon an back to the Wearmouth Bridge. Retrace your steps through the city centre, but the time, rather then heading through Grangetown, head out on the Durham Road, A690, all the way to Herrington.
Head left at the Herrington roundabout onto the B1286 and follow this right at the next roundabout. Continue on the B1286 past Morrisons and on until you reach Tunstall.
Drop down through Ryhope village and past Cherry Knowle Hospital. Follow the A19 feeder, Stockton Road, A1018, and turn off onto the B1285 towards Seaham. Either drop down Byrons Walk or follow Station Road, B1404, and Tempest Road, B1287, back to the coast and start point.
