From Salisbury station, the route leaves the city through Stratford Sub Castle before heading up the Woodford Valley to Amesbury. It leaves Amesbury via London Road and Bulford Hill, before passing through Bulford and swinging a left on Milston Road. In Netheravon, the route continues over the plains to Everleigh and Collingbourne Ducis. There is then a steady climb to Wexcombe before meeting the A338 and carrying on towards Great Bedwyn. It is then all along more minor roads via North Standen to Hungerford.
