Cycle Steps
Starting at the Tesco Purley, head south on the A22 for 500mts and then right by the Shell Garage into Foxley Hill.
Now follow the cycle route along back roads until Salmons Lane,Whyteleafe. Turn right, down the hill, past Whyteleafe South Row Station. Now right onto cycle lane on A22. Take the 2nd exit at the roundabout towards Woldingham. Shortly take the right fork towards Woldingham School. This private road becomes Cycle Route 21. Follow for over 2ml to barrier, left fork and leave Route 21. Steep down hill to A25. Follow to 2nd Roundabout, and take the 3rd exit to Tandridge. Another steep downhill, towards Lingfield. At railway bridge and lights go left towards Lingfield. We now return by a different route, starting on the B2029. Look out for the Red Barn pub/restaurant and here go right into Tandridge Lane. When you come to the Brickmakers Arms pub/restaurant you are back to the railway bridge/lights where you previously turned off. Keep straight on and shortly go left into Miles Lane. Continue to A22, go right and beware of traffic! Branch left at the roundabout, the old road to Godstone. After half a mile go right into Church Rd, steeped in history! At top you come back to the A22,continue over (staggered junction) and you are back on the route you came out on. Follow the same route home, except for a small deviation along the A22 at Whyteleafe to avoid the steep climb at Salmons Lane.
This ride is 50k, a half metric century!
Landmarks/Pubs for lunch/Sites to see?
Beautiful scenery in the Surrey Hills, once you turn off the A22 at Caterham Valley. Lots of history, old houses, farms and churches. And don't miss the old lock up in centre of Lingfield by the pond! Was used for local villains and poachers. Two nice tea rooms but closed on Sundays so use the garden centre in Lingfield Common Rd.
