Leave Oban train station and follow the A816 to Lochgilphead. This part of the route follows the valley basins so is relatively flat but still has great views. From Lochgilphead follow the A83 to Tarbert, this is a flat route with a large hill up and over to Tarbert, it follows the shores of Loch Fyne. Continue on the A83 out of Tarbert and follow until Kennacraig then follow the B8001 to Cloanaig Ferry. (60 Miles) From here I got the ferry to Lochranza on Arran, then did the 15 miles to Brodick for the ferry to Ardrossan and the train home. The 2 ferrys and trains to and from Glasgow cost a whole £27 when booked early enough. Great day, great views!Just remember to check ferry timetables!
Landmarks/Pubs for lunch/Sites to see?
Great food at a pub in Cairnbaan, cant remember the name but at the bridge going over the Crinan canal. Slight detour from route just outside Lochgilphead. Ardrishaig is the location of the sea loch for the end of the Crinan Canal. Good place to kill some time and watch the boats pass through. |
