Fairly flat road route from Oakdale via the Civic Centre taking the signs to Sandbanks. Just after the Civic Centre a narrow rail arch take the centre line and let the traffic wait. Through Lilliput (author of Gullivers Travels lived here) and then a slight hill to the top of Evening Hill with grand views over Poole Harbour to Brownsea Island and the Purbeck Hills beyond. Down the hill to the road going around Sandbanks Bay, cycle path marked pretty much all the way. Past Shore Road and the Sandbanks Hotel to a mini roundabout (watch it here as the road narrows) then one way road to the chain ferry, cycle path runs on the right side of the 2 lane road, very busy in the Summer with standing traffic for the ferry queuing, watch out for drivers getting out. Then to the ferry, buy your return ticket (£2.00 in 2011). On the Studland side pretty much a flat route until you go under the railway bridge and turn left to the Castle when the road becomes very narrow and steep with 4 bends, at the top turn right in to the square and get set for lunch! | |
