From Hind Street car park follow one way system around to right down to T junction. RH turn follow the road twds Fairmile, after about 1 1/2 miles cross over the old A30 and continue twds Talaton passing Escot on RHS (you can take a detour through the grounds and rejoin the road if you wish, it only adds a few hundred yards!)

Continue over the railway line into the village, keep the Talaton Inn on LHS and pedal on to Clyst Hydon, straight through the village take the sharp RH turn at the top and follow the road passing about 3 sets of redbrick cottages on RHS, over the weak bridge at next sharp LH bend follow road around and into Westcott with Merry Harriers PH on RHS.

Cross over the B3181 into another country lane over the M5 and on up the hill (grab some gears here, quite steep, but short) down the other side (25% so take care) at the T junction LH turn into the village centre up the hill and continue on through the village passing Barnes Close and Westfield on LHS at the next Xroads RT twds Silverton, follow the lane through to the T junction. Turn right still twds Silverton (care through here it's pretty dark for about 400 yds - back light on if you have it !)

In the centre of Silverton at the roundabout take 2nd exit, effectively straight on. Follow road down to its junction with A396. LT for about a mile, RT at the Ruffwell PH twds Thorverton, into centre of Thorverton pass 2 x PH's on LHS.

At fork take road to Crediton (7 miles) and Shobrooke follow the road through Shobrooke (steep descent and sharp climb out)follow this road until it meets the A3072. LT into Crediton and follow up through the High St and out twds Copplestone for about 1 1/2 miles, turn left twds Coleford, quiet country lanes again now,into the centre of Coleford LT and immediately RT up the hill twds Bow. Don't deviate off the road until reach the junction with the main road (you'll see the new Dr's surgery on RHS at the junction) Onto the A3072 twds Copplestone. Follow through Copplestone along the A3072 for about 4 miles, at Barnstaple Cross LT (Higher Road), follow the road along, straight over at the crossroads and continue downhill until you meet the A3072 again (opposite the rugby club)LT and then RT twds Shobrooke (you're now on a return of the earlier route)

Follow the road until next RT, continue along this country lane, don't take any exits until you reach a T junction about 4 miles. LT and follow the road through Shute Cross at the next T junction LT, pass Poole and Ratcliffe Farm on RHS. Take next RT and back into Thorverton and out the otherside until you meet the A396 (Ruffwell PH on LHS )

LT onto A396 and second RT twds Silverton, up the hill and back into the village centre, straight over the roundabout (2nd exit) and continue on this road through Ellerhayes over the R. Exe and continue to the B3181 (passing Killerton House junction on RHS - good coffee stop here)

At B3181 turn right and follow for about 3/4's mile, take next LT and continue through lanes until Haymans Farm on LHS. At next T junction, LT and shortly afterwards at Xroads LT towards Whimple.

Follow the road into Whimple village centre at the roundabout (Thirsty Farmer PH on LHS)RT follow the road out to the Old A30, LT up the hill to Daisymount (bit of long drag with tired legs) Through both roundabouts and head twds Ottery St Mary. Descend into town, over the river and back into the one way system and back to the car park and a well earnt rest.
