Where in Glasgow do you start this route? And is it a cycle path or road route?

cycled down to Galston yesterday, you can approach this from shawlands stick to the a77, or Kilmarnock Road, all the way to Newton Mearns, straight road, just after Malletsheugh Inn on your right hand side there is a good cycle path which takes you all the way to the turn off at the a719, after that no more cycle path
