Cycle Steps
This Cross country mixed on and off road route passes through both Stourhead and Longleat Forests and takes in superb views of both Estates.
Make your way from the pub car park to Charlton Musgrove, on B3081, before meandering on bridle paths through Stourhead forests. Go past the beautiful gardens and main house, climb up towards Alfreds Tower and enjoy sweeping woodland tracks to Druley Hill Road. Climb this quiet road to Gare Hill and drop down a rutted and muddy woodland track to cross the B3092. Follow Forest Road and enter an old avenue of trees, down to Longleat House. Lots going on here which you can enjoy, or avoid, before climbing past the safari park to Heavens Gate and spectacular views.
Once again meander on forest tracks down to the cafe at Shearwater. Now follow the gentle climb past Maiden Bradley up to Alfreds Tower and re-cross your path. Take the wooded trails on to Penselwood and return to the Hunters Lodge for a well deserved drink.
