This is the GPX tracking of 3 of the 8 designated Cycle/MTB routes available at Drumlanrig Castle. There is also a multitude of forest tracks that could be combined to create your own MTB route.

First route covered: -
"Alton Rigg"
13km - Grade: Easy
This pleasant ride takes you through the quaint hamlet of Burnsands. You are rewarded with superb views of the Lowther Hills above the Nith Valley which sprawls out beneath you.

Then we moved onto:
"The Castle Round"
8.5 km - Grade: Easy
A meandering cycle around the Castle, passing lochs, burns and rivers. Be sure to stop along the route to enjoy the abundance of wildlife and the heather house, which was constructed as a summer house during the Victorian period.

Followed finally by: -
"Copy Cat"
9km - Grade: Moderate
This trail is ideal for mixed ability groups as the route follows the second half of the Mountain Biking red route. It is on forestry road and easier parts of single track sections which involve a fast, sweeping, exhilarating piece of trail incorporating numerous 'berms'.

For full details visit http://www.drumlanrig.com/default.asp?PageId=386 and http://www.drumlanrig.com/default.asp?PageId=154 for MTB routes.

The first route covered is suitable for any kind of bike, but does travel along some public roads, the other two routes are suitable for hybrid or mountain bikes, the second traveling along rough tracks for parts and the final route a combination of rough tracks and some narrow trails.

There are some more "green" beginner routes, and a couple of Mountain Bike only routes (one red, one black).

As well as the cycle routes there are several country walking routes available too, as well as Castle tours, superb castle gardens, cafe, adventure playground, a cycle museum and shop (there is also a bike hire place there too)

However you do have to pay to use grounds as it is privately owned, grounds only access that covers everything apart from Castle access, is currently £15 for a family or £40 for a family season pass, which is good value as you will probably need 3 or 4 trips just to cover all cycle routes, before you think of any walks or gardens.

Drumlanrig Castle, Castle Gardens, Adventure playground, forest walks, castle cafe, cycle hire shop, multiple cycle and walking routes... very good facilities.
