This route cuts through Didcot town and onto Cycle Route that runs along the old railway to Upton. Go through the village, near the village hall turn right and follow the road to the end. This will bring you out near to the George and Dragon Public House. Turn left and cross the road (TAKE CARE - Turning is on a bend and it's a busy road). Follow the marked track (I think it's a byway). This will take you up a steep slope which levels out then drops into Chilton Village. Drop down towards the Rose and Crown Public House and turn left. Go underneath the A34 and up a short track. Cross in front of Chilton School and follow the road until you turn onto the A4185 - VERY BUSY ROAD with limited cycle paths. Turn left onto the A4185 and go past the Harwell Business Centre. Go past a set of pedestrian crossings, there will be a track on your right, go down this track (the Winnaway) to the end. Turn right and follow signs for Didcot. Once back in Didcot there is a choice, either turn left at the roundabout with the Shell garage (as indicated)or go straight on along broadway. If bearing to the left, follow Foxhall road all the way to a roundabout. Turn right onto Station Road - there is a cycle way here. Stay on this road it become Hithcock Way, straight on through a set of traffic lights, up the slight incline, Sainsbury's will appear on the right. At the next set of lights, turn right and go up the hill to the start point. |
