This is my current commute from Kilburn to Sea Containers House on the southbank. It's mostly fairly flat and technically easy but contains lots of opportunity for traffic dodging and sightseeing. Traffic on Kilburn High Road is always horrific but eases out at Maida Vale. The diversion though the park in the middle isn't strictly necessary or even a shortcut but it is a nice breather from the traffic before hitting portland place and the centre of town traffic again. I think there are 5 or 6 sets of lights on Portland Place and upper Regent Street and in the three weeks i've been doing this commute i'm pretty sure that all of them have been red every time i've come to them!
Landmarks/Pubs for lunch/Sites to see?
Lords Cricket ground, Regent's Park, Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Waterloo Bridge, The Oxo Tower

You'll be glad to know it's not just you the traffic lights dislike! Is there a more free-flowing route that avoids the stop-start of Portland Place / Upper Regent St?
