Joined: 07 Apr 2009 Posts: 116 Bike: My Profile | Went out on the weekend and my front wheel got wedged in a 4x4 track and my feet were locked in - I went over and my handle bars turned... managed to wind myself by landing on the bar end and now have a nice bruise on my ribs! |

My husband managed to fracture his skull in a bike accident this summer and severed some temporal nerves, hence deaf on one side and no balance information on that side either. So he is having to relearn balancing. I was wondering if anyone knows any cyclists who have come back from something similar, and how they did it? I would be grateful for any info to encourage him, he is very fed up with not cycling. Thanks in advance. |

Joined: 09 Nov 2012 Posts: 13 Bike: My Profile | hi aglet thats a really nasty one - i can only say time is a good healer and the human body repairs itself quite well just takes longer as you get older - my wife had a stroke 3 weeks before xmas and lost use of her right side but with the physios help she is gradually getting a bit better- just very down as she wants to do things for herself- ive not been on bike but use a trainer indoors so still keep fit- another boost was hearing about the ex speedway champion peter collins who had a massive brain haemmorige but is now well on the mend- i know its not the same thing but an example of whats possible with time and patience hope your husband gets well soon and back on his bike -very good luck to him |

I broke my arm in 10 places this was pinned, plated and screwed back together, dislocated my shoulder breaking my humerous head and dislocated my clavicle. This happened at the end of September last year and prior to the recent snow I have only just managed to get out for the first time since rather gingerly. |

The first time I was chasing someone who tried to run me off the road, when I made a wrong turn in a mall parking lot, crashing into a parked car. The second time with the same wrist, I was knocked off the road, because I wasn't 'taking the lane'. So the motorist could easily tell the police, they didn't see me. Even though I had been viewable to them, only moments before. |

Joined: 06 Apr 2010 Posts: 50 Bike: My Profile | wonder why we do it? are we crazy. what tends to cause most accidents? lack of concentration? poor road conditions? idiot motorists? ive been very lucky only fallen off once (touch wood) and that was just a minor slip. I take it steady I guess and give my self as much space and time and get off if unsure. sounds abit wet really! |

Bike flex on me got a wobble and had to throw myself off my bike onto the grass. Torn all my ligerments in my shoulder ripped them out. Both knee caps knock sideway. Took me nearly 20 years to get back on my bike. |
