Thought I'd move this general chat from the "Where Does Everybody Live..."

My knees use to really hurt (years ago) - well the muscles / tendons above the knee cap

Apparently it was because I was always trying to turn too big a gear (Bike Shop Expert). He has encouraged me to use only the small cog at the front unless I'm doing over 22mph.

This has made a massive difference to average speed and stamina.

Takes some getting use to... old habits etc.

In his words you should be pedalling like a cartoon character.

I can now do 50 miles with no probs or reaction in my knees. Hope this helps.

I have a mountain bike - Claud Butler Cape Wrath

Use it to go to the pub and back.

Quite often I go off road!!! unintentionally ;-)

Have not really done any real off-road but would give it a go.

How was Cannock chase? We have a regional office in Cannock.

Going to Cannock this Saturday (hopefully!)

Your more than welcome to come along, i'm supposed to be picking the other two lads up at 7.15 ish and theres a space in the car if you fancy it and a spare bike rack on the roof!

we are by no means mountain bikers and take our time so dont worry about not going off road much!

theres still a little bit of organising to sort (one of the lads might be working) but i'm pretty sure we'll be going

do you fancy it?

I have 4 Thule 591 cycle carriers attached to the roof of the car!!

there a good carrier and you can actually lock the carrier to the roof rack and your bike into the carrier so there fairly secure

you can pick one up for about £60-70

If you fancy going to Cannock give us a shout

What time is your tee off, we'll be back for lunchtime!!

Golf Breakfast @ 11am Tee off @ 12

However my wife is out in the morning (hair / nails...) so I have the kids (3yrs and 10 months)

Definitely up for a ride on MTB or road.

Thinking of getting some powerful lights. The lanes around here at night are great (around Daw Mill Colliery, Shawbury...) - just have to be careful with loose gravel and potholes.

Don't know if you've ever used this site but amongst other things it gives elevation. On the ride below, Maxstoke is a particular favourite @ around 20 miles. Very steep (great views to rehydrate during or after the climb)

I'll probably do this Sunday morning (depending on hangover).

We have a 1st Birthday party in the afternoon.

Don't know about you but my bike is hiding in the garage. Hasn't been out for quite a while. Now have 2 weeks off so have to get out and about.

Have finally purchased a decent light for the evenings so there really is no longer any excuse - apart of course from icy roads at the moment.

Did I read somewhere that you had purchased some lights from DealExtreme? - are they any good?

Hi Spike,
I'm off from xmas eve for a week so could go out sometime that week if you fancy it?

I've been really struggling with my fitness since the doctor gave me cholesterol tablets which have caused really bad joint pains and stopped me riding for a few weeks

I've stopped taking them now and i'm slowly getting back on the bike as the pain has eased a bit but i put on nearly a stone in weight from not riding!!

Are you thinking of going out on the road or doing a bit of mountain biking?

Could perhaps go up to cannock for a trip if you fancy it (and i wanna try my new mountain bike!)

Wherever we go you'll have to put up with a slow unfit fat bloke with no stamina for a bit!

How about your Corley Wolvey circular - with plenty of pubs and breaks factored in

Then a trip to Cannock for a blast on the MTBs

My email is krazykayaker66@hotmail.com if you want to contact me direct instead of going through cycle route

Hi i have osgood slatters disease and the physio told me not do any sport to hard on your knees like rugby...he told me it is best to keep it in gear 5 for the max.
I not long ago cycled from carmarthen to cardiff(abt 80 miles) and it sure did help :D

How about we do this the easy way instead of forcing people to do things that they would never do if they were not coerced by some bullies who think they can push people around any time that they want to.
