Hi Wayne
I try to mix it up a bit, i was thinking of going up the Bowes path and onto Birtley then back through Washington, Sunderland and shields as little on road as possible. Could do part or all if you fancy a ride out this Saturday

Hi all, is anyone up for a 20 – 50 mile ride on Sunday 19th Feb meet at Washington, Gateshead, Hebburn, Jarrow or South Shields?
80%/20% off road on hardtail mountain bike or hybrid. We can head over the Tyne and North or West to Consett and on to the Waskerley Way, or any other route according to your ability.

Cheers Dave B.

Let me know which way you are heading. You probably now realise that 7, 14 clockwise certainly avoids that Blackhill climb.

I had half planned to cycle along a new route for me :to the Ski Slope, also to see if there was any ad-hoc meet up. Though I don't quite fancy the early cold start.

Not sure which way to go, may set off from Heworth Golf Club down local route 11 towards the Tyne and then decide wheather to turn left or right when I get to Jarrow. Thought there may have been more interest from ppl in South Tyneside, it may be the cold.

More than likely there will be an ad-hoc meeting for 9:30; who knows it may be to Durham City, South Shields or the Rising Sun Country Park.lol

Hi gipa, good route up the Lanchester Valley I have cycled from Silksworth to Durham City up the Lanchester Valley to Consett then down through Annfield Plain, Stanely, Beamish and on to Washington then back to Silksworth, a round trip of 55miles or so.

I am on the (kind of) Washington Gateshead border A194M area.

Nice little stop at Tescos, Annfield Plain and the farm shop just off Butsfield Lane Consette.

I am now thinking about NCN route 14 to Greatham, decisions?

Am happy to meet at the something like the start of Follingsby Lane (at the burger van/cabin layby)

We could head to Silksworth and see what comes up. Tomorrows mainly sunshine so a sandwich at Hurworth Burn lakes and a Hart route 14 loop might also be a good idea.

A 63 mile coincidence.
I'm just back from a 63 mile afternoon tour of Derwent Reservoir.
Route 7 to Consett was relatively sheltered and as I did not fancy the famous Waskerley headwind I went a safer north east to the reservoir via Shotley Bridge.
The return wind was always going to be a road treat and I had my fastest average for long ride in many a year.

I'm out Sunday and maybe even Saturday too so may join you unless I have had too big a Saturday. WFCG looks a bit too short even with 20 miles to/fro the meet point.
I wonder if Dave is up for it?

Alan
