Specialised Allez is a solid starter bike, well reviewed and supported by Allez rideres. I reviewed a few when i was looking a few years back. I went with a raliegh AF10 in the end as it was brand new but just second hand - the tyres still had the rubber nipples on them, could turn down a new bike for half the price.

Good luck

I got the Specialized Allez Sport last year, and have been extremely pleased with it.
After a year, I've had to refresh the tape, and changed the tyres to Gator Skins (fewer punctures) but other than that it's been a great bike.
Evans have it on special at the moment.

Bit of a trend here :)

I got the Specialized Allez £500 from Dales cycles in March this year, great bike for the price and came out on top in a review of bikes priced around the £500 mark in a popular bike magazine.
