As above. At 34 years of age I find myself back in the saddle since my teenage years. My reason is mainly for commuting to work and at 34 Ive found my tolerance to the 'gym' and its #FITFAM members is almost non existant. So, after recommendation from a friend and reading reviews I ended up with a Carrera TDF from Halfords. A good 1st road bike Im led to believe. Ive had it just over a month now and have used it as part of my work commute every weekday. Total weekly mileage ranges from 20 to 54 miles. Ive fitted a pair of mudguards (or raceguards as it reads across them) front and rear to minimise dirt and grime over parts and minimise spray from the inevitable wet days. Ive cleaned it on a few occassions but Im yet to give it some proper maintenance regarding cleaning the cassette and chain components.

Ive seen a handy looking tool that cleans your chain when filled with a degreaser which seems to simplify the job but could anyone help a little further with regards to how I lubricate it properly and recommend a good enough lubricant. Any help on what else I should be including in general bike maintenance and how often - as Im thinking weekly at worst case scenario.

Any help o guidance is greatly appreciated guys.

Steve.
