Every spring, summer and into the autumn I enjoy exploring the Surrey canal and now I've upgraded my old cheap hybrid for a mid range mountain bike I'm really excited about getting out again. This time though I want to challenge myself now I Have a bike fit for purpose. Can anyone recommend any locations for off-road cycling. My skills aren't advanced enough to join any big groups and I'm not interested in racing. Just somewhere nice where I can pootle about, practice some skills and enjoy the location.

Swinley Forest is in Surrey I think.
Why not buy a land ranger map and create routes using just bridleways and ByWays with the occasional road thrown in?
Lieth Hill is also good
this site doesnt really allow you to plan off road rides as there is only road options.

Thanks, I'll definitely give it a try. It's a bit out of my reach for the moment because it would be a 50 mile round trip but it will be fun training and gives me something for aim for.

Swinley is ideal as it has both the feel of a trial centre with proper one-way, waymarked tracks (graded Green, Blue and Red).

If that's not your thing then Swinley has loads of fire roads to explore. You could easily put together a 20 mile circular ride around there.

Gets busy weekends and the car park is quite small. You can park over the road at the swimming pool though.
