Cyclecity/Sustrans Cornwall Cycle Map

Joined: 22 Aug 2012 Posts: 2 Bike: | Hi all, I'm planning a cycle for myself and three friends from Penzance to St Mellion (our home village). I had planned to follow NCN3 for much of the route until I came across the Cornwall Cycle Map. This map shows NCN3 but also (in yellow) a "recommended route". The recommended route differs significantly from NCN3, to the extent that I'm having doubts about it. I've plotted the "recommended route" using Google Earth and it can be downloaded from http://www.stmellion.org/cornish_way.kmz. I'd be very interested to hear if anyone has followed this route or has any comments regarding it. It certainly avoids main roads but the elevation profile suggests it's not an easy route. My party all ride road bikes so I'm hoping the "traffic free" sections are on a good quality surface. Many thanks, Steve |

 Joined: 04 Aug 2012 Posts: 13 Bike: My Profile | Morning crooks, I don't know the criteria for your route and can't comment on much of it, but the bit through St. Austell looks a tad uninspiring :-) Sums up St. Austell, really. Have you used cyclestreets? I've just downloaded the route-planner to the netbook, the app to my 7" tablet & phone and the offline open street maps to both. There are plenty of variables you can apply to a route - I just used the default settings and the route it came up with from Penzance to St. mellion looks rather nice; to me, anyway. Pete |

And don't forget to carry retro bowl essentials like repair kits, water, snacks, and a map in case of any unforeseen circumstances! |
