Out of the 100 islands that make up Shetland only 15 are inhabited. Settlers arrived around 1500 B.C. and began building many of the structures that are still standing today with a heavy norse influence. During the winter on a clear night the Northern Lights are visiable. During the summer the days are almost always filled with sunshine. The temperature is pretty mild, with only 200 days of rain.
