The Death Valley Cycle is from 22nd - 29th November 2014 and is five days of cycling with varying distances from 56 - 101km per day. This exciting and challenging cycle ride takes us through Death Valley National Park, on the California / Nevada border. Death Valley sits below sea level, and is infamous as the place where the highest temperature was recorded: 56.7°c, at Furnace Creek on July 10th 1913. Thankfully, temperatures in November will be much cooler, although this is still a challenging ride. Our route crosses three mountain passes, and we will be covering a total distance of 438km (264 miles) by bike. The smooth tarmac and wide open spaces make for fantastic handlebar views. Despite its morbid-sounding name and the harshness of the environment, Death Valley is home to over 1,000 types of plant, including colourful wildflowers. The striking scenery includes sand dunes, rugged canyons and – in the winter months – snow-capped mountains surrounding the valley. The bright lights of Las Vegas will be a welcoming sight at the end of our challenge, where we will spend our last night and celebrate Thanksgiving. You can sign-up to the is event just to take part or you can raise money for any charity of your choice. Bikes are provided. Suitable for amateur rides that have put in the training to be able to achieve the distances and terrain. For more information plesase visit our website www.acrossthedivide.com
