Cycle Steps
"Britain in Bloom" winning village of Beauly with free parking and all facilities. North facing Ben Wyvis to Muir of Ord branch at Garguston to the church at Killernan, famous for its connection with the celebrated tramp "Farquar of the Gun". Next is Redcastle until its ruin a contender for the oldest continually inhabited residence in Scotland. This single track road is one of the oldest in Scotland. The remains of salmon traps and crannogs and piers on the beautiful Beauly Firth give witness to commerce back to Roman times. The Village of Kessock has much charm and was the crossing to Inverness at the narrows from the times of the saints and early kings, often on pilgrimage to St. Duthac`s at Tain. Crossing the bridge and skirting round the city of Inverness to the Muirton basin on the Caledonian Canal this trip offers the sailor a quick stretch of the legs along the route of the old A9 to Bogroy. once the haunt of whisky smugglers and on to Kirkhill and its Fraser Maulsoleum at Wardlaw now splendidly restored. On to the Beauly under towering Ben a` hicart a river once teeming with salmon. The king of fish has now taken a back seat to a dolphin and seal population explosion. Return to the village of Beauly, or start from Inverness
Landmarks/Pubs for lunch/Sites to see?
The Beauly Firth and its surrounding mountains, on its day, is secretly one of the most spectacular sights in the whole of Scotland. Abounding in wildfowl, and being tidal it has all sorts of variations to treat the eye.
