Slightly better to have a road bike, but you can use mountain bike if you have one - more fun!
Beware of Aston Hill, it is very stony at the bottom. But, if you can get up it well done!
Landmarks/Pubs for lunch/Sites to see?
Aston Hill, great for road racers
Gunnelswood road, great long, flat surface, good for sprinters or time-trialists.

Just got back from this route. A gorgeous day in Stevenage for a ride which definitely helped in the ratings! Started the loop in Pin Green and onto a great easy straight along Martins Way.

I didn't have a map - just written directions from this page. Although Stevenage underpasses are great, they often need more direction like the roundabouts above them.

As soon as the cycle paths disappeared the route got a bit trickier with narrow roads and traffic. Got a bit lost in Aston - not always easy to spot the road names, but plenty of great wee pubs to stop, have a refreshing drink and ask for directions.

All and all a great couple of hours riding.
