Cycle Steps
Shepperton Lock, Virginia Water, Chobham Common, and back.
The route is on quiet roads except for a short stretch of A30 past Wentworth. Flat to start with a draggy hill through Virginia Water. From the left turn at Sunningdale Village the roads are rolling, with a short sharp climb back to the traffic lights at the junction of Trumpsgreen Rd and Sandhills Lane. On the way back a nice detour along Dokkett Eddy Lane, alongside the River.
I use the route to test fitness, it takes about 1hr 15mins.
With a fastest ever time of 56mins.
From Kew Bridge head towards Chiswick Bridge. Go under Chiswick Bridge and past the Mortlake Brewery. Over the level crossing and up Sheen Lane, through Sheen Gate into Richmond Park.
Turn right at mini round about and head towards Richmond Gate. Turn left at mini round about heading towards Kingston Gate. Turn left at Kingston Gate heading towards Isabella Planation. Carry on past Robin Hood Gate and left at Roehampton Gate.
Once you are back on the Sheen Gate mini round about, turn left up toward The White Lodge (sign posted). Turn right toward Ham Gate and the out of Ham Gate. Cross over main road with Ham Common on your left. Head towards Teddington Lock. Once on the tow path take a right along the river. Keep on the tow path, past Ham, Richmond, Chiswick and on to Hammersmith Bridge. Over Hammersmith Bridge and back along the other side of the river. Keep going till you come to Edensor Road. Turn right and then right again and opposite is Chiswick House grounds.
Landmarks/Pubs for lunch/Sites to see?
At the start there is a tea shop at the Lock, plenty of shops and pubs at regular intervals round the loop.
Landmarks are the waterfalls at the side of the A30 just before the traffic light into Wentworth.
Thames Court Pub at the finish serves good food and beer!
Also, there is the ferry across the river to Weybridge.
