1. This trip felt like a trip in the highlands but has excellent public transport links. Train to Arrocher/Tarbet, then ferry across Loch Lomond to Inversnaid Pier. And at the end train back from Dunblane train station.
Fairly easy to navigate. There was almost a gotcha at Stronachlachar where cyclists can come off the main road at a house to get access to Loch Katrine pier. The sign is there just hard to spot.
Also there is a nice off road section on the north bank of Loch Katrine which I think avoids one of the many steep hills.
After Loch Achray on the A821 look out for the Byre Inn to travel along the south side of Loch Venachar.
Then just be aware of fast traffic on the A81 south of Callander. Then a peaceful B8032 to Doune and a not so nice A820 but that gets you home. (this bit of road is crying out for a cycle path) |
