Cycle Steps
1. NB - route contains a small section of rough path possibly not suitable for road bikes. To avoid - In Rowell avoid Green Lane and continue on for 1k turning R at Gravelly Lane for Newney Green. Depart Chelmsford heading for Gt Baddow on Baddow Road. Turn R onto East Hanningfield Road and follow road to reservior. Good blast round East side of reservior followed by some small lumps to Ramsden Heath. Follow long incline into Billericay and turn sharp R at X-roads for Station and Stock Road. On approaching Stock take Ingatestone road on L. Take first L, through ford and follow lane to Mountnessing crossing over A12. Cross old A12/Roman Road and head for Doddinghurst/Blackmore on Mountnessing road. At Cafe in Blackmore turn R to take Fingrith Hall Lane to cross A414. Further cafe in Norton Heath. Follow Willingale Road onto Spains Hall and then follow road through Willingale for Fyfield. At first R follow Birds Green road then R onto Dukes Lane for Willingale/Roxwell. Runs into Shellow Road and follow to Roxwell. Good blast along Shellow Road with some small lumps. Through Roxwell following road for Writtle/Chelmsford. Take R at top of small hill for Green Lane which brings you to Newney Green. Turn L at end of Green Lane and follow road to Writtle. Either take Cow Watering Lane and N1 Cycle Path through Writtle College and back to Chelmsford via Central Park, or follow Lordship Road to Writtle Village green and back to Chelmsford via Writtle/Chelmsford Road.
Landmarks/Sites to see?
Bike shop in Billericay High St and numerous in Chelmsford. Excellent Cafes in Blackmore and at Norton Heath on crossing the A414. Village Store and Chequers Pub in Roxwell and The Duck Pub in Newney Green - all cyclist friendly.
