Cycle Steps
1. This is a tough route for those who like a serious challenge! The route starts relatively undulating through the villages of Chilworth and Albury before heading right onto the New road up a short but challenging climb into the Surrey Hills. Veering left onto Park road you follow the road round up to the junction for Shere, Peaslake and Ewhurst. You then take the Hound House Road south for about 3.5 miles. In the middle there is a very long 2 part climb that will test those calves and hamstrings! The reward is a long and very fast descent down to Ewhurst. After passing through Ewhurst at Great pace, we take a left turn and go back on oursleves up Holmbury Hill, probably the most challenging gradient on this ride, climbing up for a good 2 miles. You then descend very quickly into Peaslake. From here we take a right at the junction and follow the signs for Shere and Albury taking us back to the Hound House road junction. For sentimental purposes you take on this challenging road again descending back into Ewhurst for a second time, This time round you take a right turn on the Cranleigh Road on some bery fast and smooth surfaces all the way through Cranleigh town centre. It's then just a case of taking the B-road towards Guildford via Shamley Green and Wonersh before finishing back in Shalford. And breathe!!
Landmarks/Sites to see?
Too many exceptional views to mention but as a rule, the harder the climb, the better the views. Peaslake is well catered to cyclists and is a great meeting point with other riders. It has a cafe and a shop for spare tubes etc. Cranleigh is also a charming but larger village where you can stop off for a pub lunch or pick up supplies.
