Cycle Steps
1. This a pleasant, scenic, almost flat, circualr route, which for the majority is on quiet lanes. Don't be fooled by what the map shows on the A1 qnd A46. The short section on the A1 is actually on a cycle path alonside it, although you will have to cross it once in to Fen Lane. Since the map was published the new A46 has opened and this route uses the old A46 which is now as quiet as any country lane. If you get the chance the Limehause deli and coffee shop in Orston village is worth a visit and has a small bike rack and seats out the front for cyclists. Opening times 0900 to 1700 Tue to Sat. Closed Sun & Mon. We paid £3.80 today for two very nice cappuchinos. It is on the right just as you enter the village but you will need to keep your eyes open as it is only has a small sign. The route passes a number of picturesque villages. look out for the gliders near RAF Syerston at weekends and the abandoned Officers Mess, which is well beyond its former glory. The ford at Foston is very nice too and shallow enough to dip your toes on a hot day. There are 3 pubs in Long Bennington and the last one in the village is the best with ample outside seating. If you park opposite the Wheatsheaf Pub in Dry Doddington you can enjoy a drink when you finish.
