Cycle Steps
1. This is a short loop that can be completed in under an hour. It starts from the Sandygate area of Kingsteignton and goes North along Sandygate Lane, turns left into John Acres Lane, then right to go past Fosterville. Keep going uphill and you will reach Gappah. Go straight across the dogleg junction and carry on up the hill (the lane here can be very muddy past the farm). About 1/4 mile past the farm carry straight on and the road dips down and goes over an old stone bridge. A stone wall should now be on your right. Keep going along this lane until you reach Biddlecombe Cross. Go straight across heading for Teignmouth and the A380. At the top of the climb turn right and cross the A380 overbridge. Turn right at the roundabout heading into Colley Lane towards Teignmouth and after 300 metres turn right again into a narrow lane through the trees. (Be very careful when crossing the roundabout and going along Colley lane as it can be very busy with traffic). Go down the lane and enter the car park on the right, riding straight through and onto the Bridleway across Ideford Common. This is marked with small blue arrow signs and has loose stones, tree roots and puddles if its been raining. (look out for walkers and people on horses). At the bottom of the track go back onto tarmac and follow the lane through a yard (lots of scrap cars!!!). Go down Bowdens Lane into Ideford. Turn right into Fore Street and go up past the Royal Oak pub (or stop for pint). Keep going up the hill until you reach a crossroads. Turn left and immediately left again into Hamblecombe Lane. This is a typical farm track with a gravel and muddy surface, ruts and puddles. Carry on along this lane and when you start to descend the track has a lot of loose rocks. At the bottom turn right towards Ideford Mill Cottage. Go past the cottage (on your left), over the bridge and right onto a bridleway. There are stables ate the end of this track so look out for horse riders (and piles of horse poo!). This lane does not get much sunshine so can be wet and muddy at any time of year. At the end of the bridleway turn right and head up the steep hill. This is the only steep climb on the whole route. At the top turn left watching out for fast moving traffic coming off the A380 slip road. Head down the hill, under the A380 underpass and stop at the Ten Tors pub for another pint.
