Cycle Steps
1. A pleasant route with a mixture of scenic flat sections, climbs and views. From Gourock, take the short boat trip across to Kilcreggan (runs approx hourly, takes about 10 mins, cost about £2.40, bikes go free). From Kilcreggan follow the road round to Garelochhead and the Faslane naval base. Take the minor road signposted Glen Fruin, there follows a long steep climb. This road takes you right across to Loch Lomond where you join the NCN route south. This goes to Balloch, then on a cycle path to Dumbarton, which continues along the Clyde to Erskine Bridge. Cross the Erskine Bridge then take minor roads to Bishopton. From there take the quiet Old Greenock Road to Port Glasgow. Descend Clune Brae and take main A8 road to Gourock (several minor routes available through Greenock depending on your local knowledge!).
