Cycle Steps
1. This is a road route, on a mix of A, B and country roads, that has wide, nicely undulating roads, with only 2 real hills in there, 1 hard and 1 medium steepness and duration. I've done this on a road bike, although I had to cycle across a field by Dutton Locks. It's a good ride overall and I did it the first time in 2 hr 22 min. Head out of Weaverham on Sandy Lane, B5142, to the A49 junction. Turn right onto the A49 and follow this through Bartington to the A533 crossroads. At the crossroads, turn left onto the A533 and follow this through Dutton and under the M56. Turn left onto the A56. Follow the A56 back under the M56, through Sutton Weaver and into Frodsham. In Frodsham, turn left onto the B5152 and follow this out of Frodsham. Take the right turn, off the B5152 onto Hillfoot Lane, heading for Newton. Follow the road through Newton and on till the B5393 junction. Turn left onto the B5393 and follow this through Mouldsworth and Ashton to the A54 junction. Turn right onto the A54 and at Tarvin Sands turn left, off the A54 and onto Shay Lane, heading for Oscroft. Follow the roads through Oscroft, Willington Corner, coming out of Willington Corner on Chapel Lane. Follow the road as it turns sharp right and then swings round to the left and goes past the large building on the right. Take the next turn on the right into Tirley Lane. Follow this all the way into Quarry Bank. In Quarry Bank swing left onto the Quarry Bank road and follow this till the T junction. Turn right onto Heath's Lane and go to the B5152 junction. Turn right onto the B5152 and follow this into Cotebrook. In Cotebrook turn left onto Utkinton Lane and go across the A49 crossroads onto Oulton Mill Lane. Follow this as it takes a left at the fork and then turn left at the junction onto Beech Lane, heading for Oulton. Follow the road through Oulton to Little Budsworth. In Little Budsworth turn left onto Mill Lane, heading towards Whitegate. Follow the road across the A54 junction, onto Clay Lane and all the way to Whitegate. In Whitegate continue to follow the road as it swings left and goes past the golf course on your right. Follow the road as it becomes the A559 and goes over the A556. Take the first left, off the A559, and then immediately take the turn off to the right, Littledales Lane. Follow this over the railway bridge and on till the T junction. Turn left onto Hodge Lane and follow this to Gorstage. At the crossroads, turn right onto Gorstage Lane and follow this back towards Weaverham. At the junction with Forest Street turn left. At the B5144 junction turn right onto the B5144, West Road. Follow this back to the start point.
Landmarks/Sites to see?
Lots of pubs and cafe's to stop at in villiages along the way. Great views of the countryside, especially at the top of climbs, where you can see a long way across the flat Cheshire countryside. You can even see the Mersey from Frodsham.
