Cycle Steps
1. A great, hilly, mixed route, on a variety of roads and canal and riverside pathways, that is full of interest and set in the stunning Bronte country, north of Bradford. As a result of the pathway elements, this route is ideally suited for mountain or hybrid bikes, not road racing bikes. The ride begins in Baildon, heading east onto the A6038, Otley Road. You then turn off right into Lower Holme and follow this round to the Canal. Go left onto the canal towpath and follow this on a loop around Dawson Wood, crossing back over the canal on Buck Mill Lane. Turn right over the river and follow this onto Esholt Lane and on into Esholt, made famous as the location for ITV drama Emmerdale Farm. In Esholt turn left into Station Road and after about 300m turn right onto Old Hollings Hill. Follow this up to the junction with the B6153, Park Road, and turn right. After about 400m turn left into Back Lane. Follow this up across the A65 into Ings Lane and then left onto Chevin End Road. Follow this up to the crossroads and turn left onto Buckle Lane, heading for Menston. From Menston you'll head west on Bingley Road, detouring onto quiet country Lanes, flanking the famous Ilkley Moor and passing two reservoirs and going through Ferncliffe, Gilsted and Eldwick, before returning to Baildon.
