Cycle Steps
1. This is an undulating road route, mainly on A roads, with a suggested train ride from Stirling back to Glasgow. The route starts with a gentle uphill ride, for the first 10.5 miles, out through the West End and Bearsden. Between this and the 16 mile mark there is a pleasant downhill section, once you're into the country. From the 16 mile mark the terrain goes up and down again until around the 28 mile mark. It then goes flat to very slightly downhill all the way to the 37 mile mark, when you head into Stirling. The last flat section is a good spin on fairly straight roads. Overall the route has 350m of climbing and 360m of descent. If you get to Drymen and your legs aren't going to make it to Stirling, you can always bail out, down the A811 to Balloch, and get a train back to Glasgow.
Landmarks/Sites to see?
Between Drymen and Stirling there are one or two shops and garages, but one shop was "cycles outside" only (no chance!) and the garages seem to have fairly limited opening hours.
