| 1. The route is all on road, with no major hills and relatvely little traffic, and is suitable for all riders and all bike types; road/mountain bikes/hybrids etc. It's also a great training loop for the more serious rider.
A fantastic tour through some East Suffolk, passing seaside towns, forestry and open countryside with lots to see and do along the way. You start off near Eyke, and pass Tunstall Forest through the pretty villages of Butley and Chillesford before reaching Orford. Head towards sleepy Iken before reaching Snape. From Snape, you go on to Aldeburgh, then Thorpeness, to Aldringham and then towards Knodishall. Turn left towards Friston before heading back up to Snape. Finally, you head towards Tunstall, go past Rendlesham and arrive back in Eyke.
Mountain bikers might like to detour along one of the many off-road tracks through Tunstall Forest (between Eyke and Orford) whilst beach lovers might like to stop off at Aldeburgh or Thorpeness.
Families might enjoy checking out Orford Castle and in Thorpeness, there's the meare where you can feed the ducks or hire a row boat/canoe for an hour or two. The unusual house in the clouds can also be seen from the meare.
To eat, there are loads of great pubs along the way; The Butley Oyster, Chillesford Froize, Orford Kings Head, Orford Jolly Sailor, Snape Plough & Sail, Snape Crown, Snape Golden Key, Aldeburgh Cross Keys, Thorpeness Dolphin and the Friston Chequers. My personal favourite is the Snape Crown; without a doubt the best food for miles.
For the best local fish around, check out the Regatta in Aldeburgh (but do book in Summer months).
No major hills and relatvely little traffic along much of the route make this suitable for all riders. The busiest part of the route will be from Snape to Aldeburgh (A1094) and from Snape to Eyke along the A1152 but both roads are very popular with cyclists and are safe to ride on.
