Cycle Steps
1. Day 4 of the charity bike ride to the Picos de Europa mountains in northern Spain. For more info see www.picosriders.org.uk. Today we ride into the heart of the Picos. Head west out of Llanes on the AS263 to Bricias. Here turn SW onto the AS115. After passing through Vibano look out for about the 5th right turn (heading west), which is the minor road LLN14. This passes by Riocalente, Mestas, Riensana,Igena,Labra and Corao to join the main AS114. The AS114 winds its way along river valleys, over hills and provides much and varied scenery. Stop at the few small villages to find a bar for refreshments. On a previous bike ride we stopped at the village shop at Corao to buy for a picnic, which we had in a spanish chestnut orchid (or is it a nuttery!) beside the River Gueno. Head west on the AS114. Take a left turn and head south into Soto de Cangis. This is our overnight stop. However, as we arrive on a Sunday we continue through Soto de Cangis to join the AS262 and go up the valley road to Covadonga. This is a place of great historical and religious significance to the Spanish. We go to the Basilica for evening Mass and to visit the holy cave. We then return to Soto de Cangis for the night.
