| 1. This route is mostly off road or on lanes, using parts of National Cycle Route 5 and Lancashire Cycleway. The route climbs gradually to Affetside and on through Entwistle and Belmont. It then goes north of Winter Hill, from where you can see Blackpool Tower, Liverpool Cathedral and the Welsh Hills on a clear day. It then returns by passing close to Rivington Pike. There are busy roads through Bolton to Moses Gate Country Park. You then go along Irwell and an overgrown canal overlooking Irwell to Ringley and then Clifton Country Park to Agecroft. Strenuous. 4.5 - 5 hours. |
