| 1. The sun was shining, I could see the hills in the distance ... I fancy a ride to Rivington! The first leg to Rivington itself is on good roads, mostly with cycle lanes, then off-road and steel yourself for the seemingly never ending climb to the Beacon Tower on the peak. Well maintained dirt and gravel tracks criss-cross the hillside with the way to the top well worn and frequented by pedestrians, cyclists and horses. The views are spectacular and the ride down was phenomenal !!! What a rush !! I came back along the canal tow-path right into Bolton centre and then back on the roads and home. Total elapsed time was 3hr 20min with a 15min rest at the top of Rivington Pike. |
