1. This is a short mixed circular route of roads, cycle paths and trails, beginning in Morrisons superstore car park (& Toilet/Cafe!). The route is suitable for mountain/hybrid and comfort bikes and for people wanting a short 1 hour leisurely ride. I like this route because it traverses the Trans Pennine Trail and you can also combine it with other mainly off road cycle routes in the Warrington, Widnes and Runcorn area. There are a couple of slight inclines on the way, but they are not of any great length, and if you feel the need you can easily dismount and walk. Starting at Greenalls Avenue, you head west along the Trans Pennine Trail path to Chester Road, A5060, where you turn left over the swing bridge. As the road bends to the right, pass the junction on the left and there is a cycle crossing point by the Indian Restaurant. This will take you across the dual carriageway and along a shared cycle path, with a slight incline, to the Mill Lane junction. Turn right onto Mill Lane, which is a quiet single track road that is seldom used by through traffic. You can coast halfway down Mill Lane, then it inclines to the Runcorn Road junction. Turn right and follow the road for about half a mile, where you will pass Moore Village Post Office, on the right, and the Bridgewater Canal on your left. After the next sharp right turn, turn right into Moss Lane (Signposted, Gentlemen Of Moore RUFC). (if you would like a pub lunch or just a drink, carry on along Runcorn Road another couple of hundred yards and there is a nice pub and beer garden on the left called the Red Lion.) Moss Lane, is all downhill, then after bending right, alongside the Manchester Ship Canal, it begins to flatten out. The road then runs alongside the canal to Moore Swing Bridge. Here you turn left onto Moore Lane and over the bridge. Take the first right after the bridge, and you will then be at Moore Nature Reserve, with several hides for bird watching and marked footpath trails. Carrying on along the straight road for about a mile, you will pass a large transport depot on your right, and eventually run parallel with the railway embankment on your right. At the junction, turn right, then under the railway arches, which is back on the Trans Pennine Trail. From here you follow the road back onto Chester Road, A5060, and turn left and then right at the pelican crossing. The trail then leads directly back to Greenalls Avenue and Morrisons Store.
Landmarks/Sites to see?
There is a bike shop at Latchford Swing Bridge on the Trans Pennine Trail, about a mile east from Morrisons Car Park, usually open Sundays, or there is a Motorworld just over Stockton heath swing bridge on the right. The Causeway Hotel is across the road from Morrisons Car Park and The Walton Stag Inn is just over Chester Road Swing Bridge where food is also served. Stockton Heath has several good restaurants and a couple of pubs, etc.
