1. This is a road route, with some notable climbs, that takes you along the A5 into London, avoiding much of the Central London traffic (a few of the London back streets are very quiet indeed). It's a very pleasant ride, which can be done non-stop or be broken up with rest breaks.
The route passes through St. Albans, Radlett, Elstree, Cricklewood, Maida Vale, Marylebone and Bloomsbury. Parts of the route in London are the recommended TfL routes.
The two most significant climbs are Cobden Hill and Elstree Hill, which are between Radlett and Elstree. Look out for the handy underpass at the roundabout as you leave St Albans via Watling Street.
