1. Leaving Cramlington you will cross the river Blyth at Plessey Woods into Hartford Bridge village and continue toward Morpeth. From Morpeth you will travel toward the A1 next to Northgate Hospital. The country route starts from here and the roads become quiet. You will travel through Pigdon and after several miles reach Netherwitton. From Netherwitton the hills become more challenging. You will reach a public house called The Gate and take a right at the junction and from this point you will be climbing alongside the Simonside hills. You will reach your final descent into Rothbury where you will be travelling at great speed (please try your brakes before descending ) You will enter Rothbury and reach a T-junction after crossing the river bridge. Take a right turn and continue along the road toward Cragside estate. The hills at this point are the greatest challenge. Continue until you reach the crossroads. Please be aware that there is a steep descent toward the crossroads and your brakes will need to be working well. Go straight over the crossroads and continue past Edlingham Castle and viaduct, climbing a steep incline to Edlingham viewpoint. From here it is a very pleasent downward cycle ride into Alnwick.
