Cycle Steps
1. Parts of the ride are hilly and so not suitable for young children unless they are very keen and fit. I incorporate this into a longer 27 ml route around the Watford area. It forms part of a local cycleway and is signposted.
2. This section is a 13 mile ride starting at Langley Hill but can be started anywhere to suit. Cycle for about .5ml climbing Langley Hill and go straight across at the crossroads. The green will be to your right.
3. Follow the road for another .3 ml and turn left into Barnes Lane (for 1.4 ml) where you're on the edge of the Chilterns, rolling hills and fields. Take care you may still encounter the odd car coming your way.
4. At the T-junction turn left into Rucklers Lane and enjoy a freewheel down (1.5ml) to a sharp right turn and into a climb at Bulstrode Lane, enjoy those views to your left.
5. After almost 1ml and at the crossroads turn left and almost immediately turn right into Longcroft Lane for (1.65ml).Continue until the T-junction and take care when turning right into Chipperfield Road which can be busy.
6. Cycle into the village and turn left at the well in Bovingdon into Green Lane and left again into Bovingdon Green.
7. If you have travelled far take a break at the Royal Oak, they sell a nice pint of Ruddles or Black Sheep and food, ranging from chips or sandwiches to a three course meal.
8. Take the road (Long Lane) to the extreme right of the Royal Oak and continue straight on at the crossroads towards Hogpits Bottom.
9. Turn right at the pub to the village of Flaunden then left and another left to pass the pub again.
10. Right at the crossroads into Flaunden Lane to the junction with busy Chipperfield Road. Turn right and then left retracing the route from Bulstrode Lane and back to Kings Langley.
Landmarks/Sites to see?
Lovely old villages where time almost seems to have stopped still.
