Cycle Steps
1. This stunning route takes you from the city of Exeter to the small seaside town of Teignmouth. It's an excellent route for all cyclists, as their are plenty of places to stop and return to Exeter by train. After passing 10 miles down the track, alongside the Exe Estuary, you reach the small village of Starcross. For some, especially with children, this is a great place to return by the train at Starcross train station, as this stretch is flat. If you continue a further 2 miles, you reach Dawlish Warren. This stretch is via a busy road, but takes you through the tiny village of Cockwood, which has a scenic pub. Dawlish Warren itself is served by a train station, mini supermarket, campsites, amusements and restaurants. Dawlish Warren to Dawlish is by road, and at first, slightly up hill, but if you can make it, definitely worth the struggle to get to Dawlish. Again, you can catch the train back here, as well as replenishing your supplies at the Co-op, Chippy and many other little shops. The last stretch from Dawlish to Teignmouth is not particularly easy for most. Entirely by road, it takes you up 3 very steep hills. However the decent into Teignmouth itself is fast and you will be rewarded by Teignmouth's beautiful views, beaches and shops. Unless you are a very keen cyclist, most people would be glad to catch the train back here to Exeter. From any of the stations; Teignmouth, Dawlish, Dawlish Warren and Starcross, it's £3.20 for Adults, £2.10 for Students and £1.10 for Children to get back to Exeter St Davids.
