| 1. A fairly scenic off-road route for the fens. Starting at Upware lock, head down Burwell Lode past Wicken Fen to the cock-up bridge. Cross the river/drain here via the bridge and continue on the opposite side down into Burwell. Follow the drain as it narrows, past the Anchor Pub beer garden and the recreation ground before picking up the Weirs road. Follow into Reach and stop at the Dyke's End pub for some of their ever so tasty beers, from their own brewery.
Suitably refreshed, carry on out the back of Reach, picking up the Upware road. At the T-Junction about 1.5m from Reach turn left then right signposted Lords Ground Farm. Follow this track past the farm on your right and you will pick up Swaffham Lode on your left. Turn right here, following the track alongside the lode up to the River Cam and the lock gates. Turn right onto the river bank and follow back into Upware. Drop back down onto the Upware road for the last mile or so back to your starting point.
