Day return to Clacton by train from London Liverpool Street is about £25 with no travel card. No requirement to pre-book bike on train.
Clacton is a stereo-typical British sea-side town, from station head to pier.
From Pier follow coast bike path to Holland on Sea passing a radio tower. Keep going past Frinton Golf club.
Depending on which council is in power you will either be able to follow sea wall on a bike path, or follow the coastal road through Frinton, your next land mark is Walton pier which is easy along sea wall. If no cycling you can walk, or miss Walton out and cycle through Frinton high street (Connaught Avenue and then cross the level crossing down Elmtree Avenue where you can join the route missing Walton out.
Folow the country lanes through many villages with pubs and village stores towards Colchester.
