The wife and myself did this September 2013 Lincoln - Boston overnight - Lincoln. What a great ride, just about tarmac all the way except for "Summer route" at Bardney which takes you down a track of Broken glass shards???? so suggest you take the little longer "Winter route" about a mile more on B road.

I did this route as part of a hundred mile circuit to Lincoln and back in mid June.
There were virtually no other people on the paths, a steady 15mph on a road bike was easily achieved and it was a thoroughly pleasant way to travel - and no traffic for 90% of the route too.
Very nice - I'd highly recommend it but it's not a racing circuit as there are walkers etc - but you can see for miles so it's very safe.
It's also very flat so riders of any ability can ride decent distances.
