Shropshire Tri, Ellesmere. This route takes you via, Overton, Penley, Hanmer and at it's furthest away point, Painters Green. The way back via A495 and Welshampton. Good cycle. |

This route is on very busy very dangerous main roads. In particular the A495 from Ellesmere up the hill to Newtown is narrow as is the approach to Welshampton. There are a lot of lorries on this road. Also the A525 from the junction of A495 to Eglws Cross is even busier being one of the main HGV routes to Wrexham Industial Estate. I was passed by a triple axle going very fast with inches to spare here. A better route is RR31 then Fenns Bank to Broad Oak, Drury Lane, Mulsford, Holly Bush, Cloy, Adrafelin, Lionlane Wood and into Ellesmere. Less traffic and better views.

On the whole the roads were smooth and seemed to be quite quick. However they are very busy with lots of large lorries. Couple of nice short steep climbs. Narrow roads are kind of the way around these parts and if you want wider then thee get busier. On the whole I would say not bad.
