The sun was shining, I could see the hills in the distance ... I fancy a ride to Rivington! The first leg to Rivington itself is on good roads, mostly with cycle lanes, then off-road and steel yourself for the seemingly never ending climb to the Beacon Tower on the peak. Well maintained dirt and gravel tracks criss-cross the hillside with the way to the top well worn and frequented by pedestrians, cyclists and horses. The views are spectacular and the ride down was phenomenal !!! What a rush !! I came back along the canal tow-path right into Bolton centre and then back on the roads and home. Total elapsed time was 3hr 20min with a 15min rest at the top of Rivington Pike.
Landmarks/Pubs for lunch/Sites to see?
Rivington Barn, the Pike, Pigeon Tower, Terraced Gardens, reservoirs - on a clear day you can see Blackpool Tower, Cumbrian Fells, Reebok Stadium, the Isle of Man. Ice cream sales, a restaurant and plenty of shops.

The travel to Rivington is easy road but once you turn off at Rivington the mood changes and you are in off road heaven.

There are so many routes around the Pike but going UP Icecream Run is probably the worst . . oops! . . the people at the top said . . don't know how you did it on a bike !

Didn't have the heart to tell'em - it's easier on a bike lol !!

The drop over the standard route off the Pike is huge the first time - I followed 2 regulars so it was a piece of **** lol !

What a rush ! Love Rivington . . The Barn has good food & drink . . loads of like minded mtb'ers and brmmm brmmm ers is this heaven or wot ???

Just try it . . there are so many ways to the top - it is not a race!

It is the feeling you get when you have overtaken numerous pedestrians "on a bike !!!!!" and beat them to the "Pike".

These walkers are SO UNFIT and deserve to be overtaken and ground beneath your wheels!! The hardest leg is the spiral up to the Pike . . DO NOT DISMOUNT you can drop some gears and pedal up the spiral to the cheers of the crawlers who came "the easy way" up the steps!!

Two legs? We have 2 wheels . . go for it!
